There are two possible locations to put an air filter for my hvac system 1.
Is there an air filter in attic.
Typically the unit would be found in a basement an attic or sometimes in the back of a closet.
So there may be an air filter behind each of those return grills.
If you have a thicker filter that is 4 or more the slot should match accordingly.
Once it is located look for a slot where an air filter should fit.

I have been putting filtrete 1900 at the return grill because it s easier to change and i assume that will keep the return duct cleaner.
This allows the filter to clean the air coming from your house before it enters the hvac unit.
All central heating and cooling systems should have an air filter but the filter can be harder to locate on some hvac units than others.
The filter typically slides into a slot above or below the hvac unit.
Currently there is no filter at the blower unit.
The air filter might be on top below or on the side of the air handler depending on what kind of air handler you have.
Other hvac systems for any other kind of system look for the air filter behind the return air grill on the wall ceiling or utility closet door.

What you are seeking is a 1 wide hinged or removable cover.
The first and possibly most important thing is to make a commitment to yourself to change your hvac filters regularly.
The return air plenum on an attic or basement air conditioner blower unit will usually be a large metal enclosure about the same dimensions in width and height as the air conditioner blower unit itself.
Having your hvac system in your attic isn t dire though you ll need to do some work to keep your air conditioner or furnace system running as efficiently as possible.
